Conservative in Trouble Because of Facebook
Remember when we use to send jokes to our friends by email? Maybe we sent to 10 to 15 people whom we would trust and would get the joke, even if it was not 100% PC. Now we send those comments and pictures to 100s of people on our Facebook and we seem surprised that we offend people. Fact, we don’t all think the same.
Now, put yourself into a position of authority and send out slightly racist or sexy comments and the whole world will see it. Facebook is your window on the world and that is where people can start to attack you from. If you are in a position of authority and you are posting on an open Facebook account you are judged differently. This is what happened to UK Councillor Mike Kusneraitis this week.
He made the mistake many Facebook users make. He did not realise his account would be under scrutiny from his voters and his competition and now he may have jeapordised his political career through not controlling and understanding his social media.
From Daily Star
Mike Kusneraitis is being investigated by council chiefs after posting the image onto his Facebook page.
He has also admitted making a number of now-removed “offensive” postings on the page – and sharing images posted on the Peoples Front of Egham Facebook site.
Cllr Kusneraitis, who is a Conservative councillor on Runneymede Borough Council in Surrey, has apologised for the images.
Among the postings included a dog with a towel on his head and a sexually explicitly cartoon.
Cllr Kusneraitis said he should be judged by his actions in the community, not by “misjudged postings on social media”.
He made a full apology in a lengthy post on his Facebook page.
